An Epic Educational Journey
During the school year, our Italian Section students embarked on a remarkable voyage through the Odyssey Project, transforming Homer’s ancient text into a living learning experience. This interdisciplinary program immersed students in classical literature while enhancing essential 21st-century skills.
The project aimed to deepen students' understanding of classical heritage through the study of epic narratives and related creative activities. By exploring The Adventures of Odysseus, students not only learned about epic storytelling techniques but also discovered the moral and historical lessons embedded in the tale. Epic literature revealed timeless truths about human nature—lessons that transcended their original historical context.
Through this epic adventure, our young explorers:
- Became storytelling champions – crafting and sharing their own tales with confidence
- Mastered word-art fusion – bringing stories to life through creative visuals
- Turned into research detectives – skillfully using sources to support their ideas
- Cracked the code of great stories – understanding how classic narratives are built
- Grew into fearless presenters – speaking clearly and engaging their audience
Active Learning in Action
Students didn't just study the epic—they experienced it through:
- Role-playing key scenes
- Creative reinterpretations (modern adaptations or dramatic readings)
- Group discussions on the story’s moral dilemmas
- Hands-on projects (e.g., designing an "Odyssey-inspired" journey map)
From Italian Section to European Dialogue: A Strategic Expansion of the Odyssey Project
Building upon the proven success of our Italian Section's pilot program, we expanded the Odyssey Project this year to create a pan-European learning experience. This expansion was carefully designed to foster continental cultural connections while maintaining academic rigor.
Three Pillars of European Dialogue:
- Common Intellectual Framework:
- Homer’s Odyssey was established as our shared literary heritage
- Cross-border assessment rubrics were developed, measuring both classical text comprehension & intercultural competency development
