Italian Opera for Children

| News Grundschule

The Italian section of the Primary School of the European School Munich took part in March and April in the project "Opera Semplice". This project aims to introduce children and young people to the world of Italian opera in an age-appropriate way. At the ESM, it was about the famous opera buffa "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" by Gioachino Rossini, the Barber of Seville. The comic opera is about Count of Almaviva, who, on the advice of the barber Figaro, courts his beloved Rosina in disguise. But Dr. Bartolo also wants to marry Rosina, not for love, but to get his hands on her money.

The soprano Maria Anelli and the pianist Serena Chillemi have jointly founded the project "Opera Semplice". In  interactive music lectures, they explained opera to the pupils. The first part of the project was about the composer, Gioachino Rossini, about his life and work and about the time in which he lived. The second part was about instruments, the voice and musical techniques. And the third part was all about the opera "The Barber of Seville". Thanks to the numerous opportunities to play, sing and make music themselves, the primary school children were quickly enthusiastic and fully involved in the action. In this way, it is possible to make the sometimes somewhat difficult-to-access world of opera understandable even for younger children. Through the many participatory moments, the pupils not only learn the theory of opera, they actively take part in it, thus keeping Italian opera alive as an important cultural asset. At the end of  the final exhibitions, there was enthusiastic applause, at the Fasangarten location accompanied by parents and a second time at the Italian Cultural Institute.
