The atmosphere was already excellent on the journey: bright sunshine and singing contributed to the good mood and strengthened the team spirit. The 11-hour bus ride to the Belgian Mol flew by. 30 pupils from the S5 and S6 of the Secondary School took part in Eurosport, the joint sports competition of the European Schools. After the Corona break, it was nice to be able to compete with other athletes again.
The training had paid off. The sports teachers Anna Böckem, Ingmar Ceschi, Markus Eberl and Olaf Schwede had prepared the teams and accompanied them to Mol. The cohesion of the pupils in the competition was outstanding. They supported each other and cheered loudly for the others. In the disciplines of duathlon, badminton, basketball and football, the ESM competed against the teams from the other European schools - with great success.
The women's teams in football and basketball both reached the finals in their disciplines. In football, the ESM students finally lost to the students of Brussels I after an exciting match with 0:2. The basketball final was characterised by a tough defensive game on both sides. With a tight final score of 7:6, it was not quite enough for first place in the end. But with the two second places and an overall ranking of eight out of seventeen, the ESM team made their way home happy and proud.
The European School Munich congratulates all the students for their success and thanks the participants and the teachers for their sporting commitment.
