Three major events made last Friday an important day for our school. In the morning, Anton Hrovath, Director of the European School Munich, António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office in Munich (EPO), and Andreas Beckmann, Secretary General of the European Schools, welcomed the participants of the Management Training for the Leadership Teams and Directors of all the European Schools and the General Secretariat, which took place on March 3 and 4 this year at the ESM in Munich. The fact that Munich was chosen as the venue is a special recognition for our school.
After the welcoming speeches, EPO President António Campinos and Secretary General Andreas Beckmann signed a memorandum important for the future development of the European Schools. The agreement provides for increased cooperation between the EPO and the European Schools in the areas of sustainability, entrepreneurship, digitalization and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics). Key qualifications for shaping the societal and technological challenges of the coming decades. Anton Hrovath emphasises: "We are called upon to develop visions for our system, for our schools, and to set up an organisational structure that guarantees that we can always offer the best possible school programme. The PISA results underline this successful path." EPO President António Campinos stresses the key role of the European Schools in an innovative educational system: “The European schools are a template of cutting-edge 21st century education. And given the outstanding academic achievements, no schools are better in my view, than the European Schools to launch these initiatives.”
Following the signing, EPO President António Campinos met with Ukrainian students who are able to continue their education at the European School Munich, made impossible in their home country by war and flight. The ESM is currently hosting 35 Ukrainian students, the highest number across the European School network. Anton Hrovath: "When young people in need require support and prospects for the future, it is our obligation, based on common European values, to help quickly and unbureaucratically. Especially for Ukraine, a well-educated youth is the cornerstone for a successful social development after the war."
The day ended after the management workshops with a European dinner at our school. Many thanks to the teachers' band for the musical accompaniment and to the colleagues who organized this day and the smooth running of the trainings.

Drei große Ereignisse machten den letzten Freitag zu einem wichtigen Tag für unsere Schule. Am Vormittag begrüßten Anton Hrovath, Direktor der Europäischen Schule München, António Campinos, Präsident des Europäischen Patentamtes in München (EPO), und Andreas Beckmann, Generalsekretär der Europäischen Schulen, die Teilnehmer des Management-Trainings für die Führungsteams und Direktoren aller Europäischen Schulen sowie des Generalsekretariats, das dieses Jahr am 3. Und 4. März an der ESM in München stattfand. Dass die Wahl auf München als Austragungsort fiel, ist eine besondere Auszeichnung für unsere Schule.
Nach den Grußworten unterzeichneten EPO-Präsident António Campinos und Generalsekretär Andreas Beckmann ein für die zukünftige Entwicklung der Europäischen Schulen wichtiges Memorandum. Das Abkommen sieht eine verstärkte Zusammenarbeit des EPO und der Europäischen Schulen in den Bereichen sustainability, entrepreneurship, digitalization and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) vor. Schlüsselqualifikationen für die Gestaltung der gesellschaftlichen und technologischen Herausforderungen der nächsten Jahrzehnte. Anton Hrovath unterstreicht: „Wir sind aufgerufen, Visionen für unser System, für unsere Schulen zu entwickeln und eine Organisationsstruktur aufzustellen, die dafür garantieren, dass wir stets das bestmögliche Schulprogramm anbieten können. Im Anschluss an die Unterzeichnung traf sich EPO-Präsident António Campinos mit ukrainischen Schülern, die an der Europäischen Schule München ihre in der Heimat durch Krieg und Flucht unmöglich gemachte Ausbildung weiterführen können. Anton Hrovath: „Wenn junge Menschen in Not Unterstützung und Zukunftsperspektiven brauchen, ist es unsere aus gemeinsamen europäischen Werten erwachsene Verpflichtung, schnell und unbürokratisch zu helfen. Gerade für die Ukraine gilt, dass eine gut ausgebildete Jugend, der Grundpfeiler für eine erfolgreiche gesellschaftliche Entwicklung nach dem Krieg ist.“
Der Tag endete nach den Management-Workshops mit einem Europadinner in unserer Schule. Einen herzlichen Dank an die Lehrerband für die musikalische Begleitung und an die Kolleginnen und Kollegen, die diesen Tag gestaltet und den reibungslosen Ablauf der Trainings organisiert haben.
