Skiing At Our Doorstep

The Primary and Secondary School pupils displayed their skills of skiing, speed, coordination, rhythm and tactics during the ski race, which was held in in the ski resort Sudelfeld, on the 6th March 2018. Located only 80 km from Munich it is practically at our doorstep. A total of 173 pupils from the 5th year of Primary School and from the 1st - 6th year of the Secondary School participated in the giant slalom.

Despite the slight drizzle, "Mother Hulda" must have shaken the feathers very well as there were the best possible snow conditions and perfectly groomed slopes in the ski resort.

The ski race was organised by the sports' teachers Maria Assunta De Stefano and Bernd Auerhammer. They received professional support from the ski school "Top On Snow" Sudelfeld, under the supervision of Michi Maier. In addition, 17 parents and one former student as ski guides and race assistants accompanied the group. There was also energetic support from Primary School and Secondary School colleagues who ensured that racing event ran smoothly and safely.

Professional time measuring and the way the competition was carried out were as perfect as in a World Cup race. In the competition, the pupils were divided into birth years and competed against each other according to their age groups. The performances of boys and girls were assessed separately. If you want to win, you have to be good at skiing. This was impressively demonstrated by Henrik Fribert from year 5 of the Secondary School as he succeeded in defending his top position from the previous year.

This sports' challenge in an enchanting winter holiday area not only left lasting impressions of nature, but also strengthened the team spirit within the group. Although it was officially called a ski race, the main focus for all ESM skiers was on having fun and enjoying each other's company during the trip.
