Adults consider Leonardo da Vinci one of the most famous European universal geniuses, but children are also inspired by the Italian engineer and artist. Pupils from the European School Munich took part in the "Leonardo 4 children" competition last school year. The award ceremony took place on on 26 September in Brussels – the ESM was very well represented.

The school children taking part in the competition had to interpret fables by Leonardo da Vinci. The occasion was the 500th anniversary of da Vinci’s death and the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. More than 500 people from all EU countries came to the Brussels Bozar for a concert for the winners. The pupils of the ESM primary school Zoe Werner and Christina Körnig won the two main prizes in the category "Drawings". They drew comics about the fables "The Chestnut and the Fig Tree" and "The Fire and the Water". Their art teacher Enrica Cavosi was visibly proud of her students. The class P3 Ita of Elisabetta Gibellini won further prizes with her submission to the fable "The snow melts".

The competition was organized by the "Carano 4 Children" Foundation. "The event was a great success in the spirit of Europe," said the foundation’s President Alessandro Carano. At the concert in Brussels, around 8000 Euros in donations were collected for the UNICEF project for children in refugee camps in Jordan.
