Last month the kindergarten children of the European School Munich got to know China. The occasion was the beginning of the new year according to the Chinese calendar. It is the year of the rat, the children learned. They also learned in which years they themselves were born: In the year of the snake, the horse, the goat and the monkey. The children also learned the Chinese numbers up to ten and they tasted Chinese noodles. They made percussion instruments and practiced a dragon dance to the rhythm.
A highlight of the project was finally the visit of the Chinese Tower in the English Garden. Together with the kindergarten team and parents who helped with the excursion, the children took the bus. Using public transport is part of ESM's environmental school concept. After arrival, first of all there was a small snack, then the tower was explored. It has 12 sides and five floors, which are climbed by a big spiral staircase, golden bells hang from its roof. Thanks to the beautiful weather, the kindergarten children could also play in the nearby playground. So everybody had a great time and could learn a lot about the Chinese culture.
