Student exchange with Barcelona

What began in the school year 2017/18 as a language trip for S5 L3 Spanish has become an exchange project with Barcelona in the current school year. Last school year class S5 L3 was able to visit the Escola Pia Sarrià in Barcelona for one day and make contact with students of the same age. This great experience has now led to the European School Munich winning the Escola Pia Sarrià as an exchange school in Barcelona.

In April, the students of S5-L3 and L4 Spanish successfully participated in the exchange project for one week. They visited the city centre of Barcelona and the unique buildings of the architect Antoni Gaudí: La Pedrera, La Sagrada Familia and the Parque Güell. There were workshops in Spanish (Salsa dance course, Museo de Chocolate). During an excursion the classes visited the beach of Sitges. The students lived with Spanish families, so they could get to know the Spanish and Catalan culture up close.

The students of the Escola Pia Sarrià already spent a week in Munich and the European School at the beginning of May. They visited Munich's city centre and saw the Deutsches Museum, the NS Documentation Centre and the Dachau Memorial. The Spanish students stayed with host families, too.

All students were able to gain valuable experience during the exchange. Both humanly and linguistically, the project was a success in every respect.

In addition to her work as an educational consultant, the teacher Antonia Bellastrada accompanied the exchange in Barcelona and Munich. She also acted as a tourism guide for the Spanish students. Antonia Bellastrada and Raquel Otal, the organiser of the exchange, are very proud to be able to offer this experience to the students. The exchange school from Barcelona is looking forward to the next school year 2019/20.
