In the school subject "Discovering the World", Primary School pupils learn about the history and society of European countries, among other things, with a lot of practical elements. In the Italian section, an inter-school project is now taking place with the European School in Frankfurt am Main as part of the subject. The topic is "La Rosa Bianca", i.e. the White Rose. The graves of the members of the well-known German resistance group against National Socialism are located only a few minutes' walk from the Primary School at the Fasangarten site in the Perlacher Forst cemetery.
At the end of September, the Italian classes P4 and P5 took part in an excursion through Munich's city centre. After visiting several important buildings and monuments, they arrived at the White Rose Memorial in front of the Ludwig Maximilian University on Geschwister-Scholl-Platz. There they learned about the origins and history of the group around Hans and Sophie Scholl and took part in a quiz about the White Rose.
The Italian Primary School classes will exchange information with the corresponding classes of the European School Frankfurt am Main as part of the "La Rosa Bianca" project. The Primary School pupils will not only learn about the White Rose itself, but also about European values of freedom and peace, free thinking and democracy in general.
The project is supported by the Italian Association of Resistance Fighters Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia (ANPI), the Friends of the bilingual German-Italian school branch in Frankfurt and the Italian Ministry of Education. It is a didactic project for Italian classes at bilingual schools and institutions in Germany with the aim of promoting cooperation, democratic values and the ideals of freedom, solidarity and pluralism as well as the ability to think critically in children and young people.
In addition to places of resistance and remembrance, topics will include the German and Italian constitutions and European history. The pupils can also develop creative contributions in various forms to the topics, for example by means of stories and interviews, paintings or music.
