A distinguished visitor at the ESM!

This morning, Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar visited the European School Munich. After a warm welcome by our Director of Secondary School, Martin Duggen, on behalf of School Director Anton Hrovath and our Director of Nursery and Primary School, Anastazija Avsec, as well as Miriam Stanonik, Slovenian Inspector, and Slovenian teacher Katia Manfredini-Schmidt, the President took part in a panel discussion with ESM students on the topic of "Digital media and young adults". The topic, which is particularly exciting for young people, led to many questions, which Nataša Pirc Musar answered expertly and eloquently.

In addition to the many opportunities and benefits of digital technologies and AI, we must also keep an eye on the dangers of disinformation and manipulation and intervene where necessary to regulate and educate. The President emphasised the important role of European institutions in the field of digital technologies and stressed that Slovenia and Germany can learn a lot from each other in order to ensure the safety of young people when using digital media.

It was an honour and a pleasure to welcome the President to our school. Our students were also enthusiastic, so that at the end of the event a queue formed because everyone wanted to take a photo and shake hands with the President.

School director Anton Hrovath: "It is very important to me personally to be in good and fruitful dialogue with the still 'young' member countries. I am therefore also very grateful to the Consul General of Slovenia in Munich, Mrs Maša Šiftar, with whom we were able to arrange this visit. After all, this small country in Central Europe is celebrating its 20th anniversary of EU membership this year. Bravo!"

We wish the Slovenians every success in their European Championship match tonight, which Nataša Pirc Musar will of course also be attending.
