National Holiday Netherlands

When Juliana took office as Queen of the Netherlands in 1948, Queen's Day ("Koninginnendag") was officially moved to 30 April. The flower-filled birthday celebration developed into a nationwide folk festival.

On 30 April 2013, "Koninginnedag" was celebrated for the last time. On this day, Queen Beatrix handed over the office to her son Willem-Alexander, who then succeeded to the throne.

From 2014, "Koningsdag" in honour of King Willem-Alexander is usually celebrated annually on 27 April.
