Last Thursday St. Nikolaus came to the Primary School of the European School Munich at Fasangarten. The children of the first and second classes welcomed him in the courtyard. The Dutch class sang songs for Sinterklaas, as Nikolaus is called in the Netherlands, accompanied by the guitar of their teacher Marcel van de Sanden. St. Nicholas then spoke to the pupils in their mother tongue, praising their achievements and giving them small gifts. The pupils thanked him with songs and poems.
Christmas spirit is also returning to primary school everywhere else. The children of the third to fifth grades from the various language sections worked together to create motifs from the Christmas story, which now adorn the windows to the courtyard. On Thursday there will be an Advent and Christmas market. On Friday the ESM primary school celebrates a tradition from the Scandinavian countries with the Luciafest. The "Queen of Lights" St. Lucia wears a wreath of lights on her head. She is always welcomed on 13 December with an atmospheric concert of traditional Scandinavian songs.
The European School Munich would like to thank the many helpers who make it possible every year to celebrate Christmas in so many ways.
