The ESM Players present Shakespeare's romantic tragedy!
This abridged version of the most famous of all love stories is set in modern times – with two households, both alike in dignity, being rival football fans.
A feud, going back several decades, between two mighty families, erupts anew when the Capulet and Montague clans meet in broad daylight. But these are not just any clans, these are football fans – and they seek trouble.
With the Prince trying to install peace between the clashing fans, this peace lasts only briefly since the Montague clan risks further conflict by secretly gate-crashing the Capulets’ masked ball. Romeo, although pining for Rosaline, instantly falls in love with Capulet’s daughter, Juliet. While Capulet has arranged for Juliet to marry County Paris, she, too, falls in love with Romeo. With the help of Sister Laurentia and Juliet’s nurse, the lovers arrange to be married the next day. Meanwhile Mercutio challenges Tybalt to a duel, Romeo tries to intervene – a fatal mistake…
